Episode 6: Skating Drills Using Open Hips

Here are two skating drills where we focus on using open hips to avoid checks and protect pucks. We try to keep forward momentum moving up ice and not over pivot and slow down.

The first drill is a quick reaction drill with the player moving down ice and the coach calling out a color. The player moves around the cone that the coach called out using open hips, makes a move on the stick following and eventually getting a good shot on goal.

The second drill is with the player starting out making two open hip movements around the cones and then continuing down ice making moves on the sticks following. You can change this drill up so that the player can make moves through the stick, go around the stick, whatever you chose to work on. Both of these drills are good to work on protecting the puck, escaping traffic and continuing to build speed down ice.

Make sure to focus on the player continuing forward momentum and not slowing down.

Episode 5: Shooting Drills in Game Situations

Here are two on-ice shooting drills I like to use which puts the player in a game type setting. One is a full ice drill where they can pick up speed and maneuver around objects utilizing moves and skills we have worked on in previous trainings. The second is more of an in-tight, quick reaction type drill where the player gets a quick shot off and reacts to a second puck, getting another quick shot off. Both drills work on similar moves but are done at different speeds and distances.

I hope you enjoy these two drills and please comment below and let me know how they worked out for your players! #HockeyTraining #PowerSkating

Episode 4: So You Want To Shoot Like A Pro

So you want to shoot like a pro? Well it's a lot of hard work and a lot of repetition. But the good thing about it is that you can do it almost anywhere, anytime. Your home, a school, church, wherever you have an area that allows you to put up a net and shoot hundreds of pucks. In this video we focus on two drills that allow us to work on our technique and accuracy. Shifting our body weight from back foot to front foot. Having our hands in good position on the stick and using our stick to sling our shot and put it in the spot we want it. Be sure to subscribe to our channel for more videos!

Episode 3: Glove Touch Inside/ Outside Edge Drill

This drill we use to really push our players use of their inside and outside edges. We try to keep the players low with their knees bent, eyes up and really push them to keep that glove on the ice for the entire drill. We also try to get them to focus on really digging those edges into the ice and making sure to use the full length of their stride and stay low in a good hockey stance. Episode 2: Double Leg Kicks

In Episode 2 we were working on double leg kicks. Bending our knees, controlling our body and maintaining our balance. In this video you can see these players are doing a good job getting out of their comfort zone and really pushing themselves to get as many reps in as possible and complete the drill.

We have done this drill a couple of times now and you can see the progression already and how it has helped them increase the strength in their legs and helped them maintain body control which now helps in game situations.
